Reading Recovery: Making a Chance One Child at a Time

$46 million for 5 years; grant from USDOE
Grant pays: tuition, teaching supplies and materials, professional books, stipend for professional development during and after training, training fee to UNCW

Teachers who receive training must use the program for at least three years and participate in the research related to the grant.
First model: teacher works with four students daily for approximately half a day; the other half of the day, they have other responsibilities as assigned.
Second model: shared classroom - two teachers share a classroom and each teaches RR half a day.
Third model: training classroom teachers; teachers work with two children during protected time each day.

Eligible districts: Bladen, Clinton City, Duplin, Jones, Lenoir, Pamlico, Sampson

Schools within districts:
Brunswick: Lincoln, Supply
Craven: James W. Smith
Onslow: Bell Fork, Blue Creek, Clyde Erwin, Morton, Richlands, Silverdale, Southwest
Pender: Burgaw, Malpass Corner, Penderlea

Others may be eligible.
